Summer camp is often the highlight of a child's summer. It is estimated over that there are over 300,000 children in the Mid Atlantic region suffers from asthma. Most of them can not go to camp because a traditional camp simply cannot provide the additional support he/she needs in order to participate. The American Lung Association of the Mid-Atlantic (ALA-MA) offers resident and day camps for children with asthma (ages 7 to 15) (see specifics for each camp). We provide a traditional camp experience with a boost. Our camps provides a full secure "med shed" to ensure each child is happy, healthy and safe. Volunteer Medical staff are on hand 24 hours a day while camp is in session. Our camps allows the child to enjoy a normal camp experience without feeling different. Campers participate in daily hands on workshops where he/she learns about their condition, what triggers it and how to manage it. Our residential camps are located in New Jersey, Pennsylvania & West Virginia for children ages 8-13. Camps in Delaware are day camps for children ages 7-11. Campers must have asthma in order to attend camp. The camp serves two purposes for youth: to have fun and enjoy a true camping experience, and also to gain knowledge about living with their respiratory condition, while enjoying all that a traditional camp has to offer. Campers gather daily for asthma education led by the Asthma Camp medical staff. Topics include basic asthma information, triggers, asthma management and medications. Locations
